Dual Cartridge Slurry Pump Mechanical Seal for Zero External Contamination
Balanced, stationary multi-spring cartridge for hazardous solids handling services
Designed for slurry pumping, where process containment is critical, the Style RKCMD handles abrasive, toxic, corrosive, or volatile liquids that require strict environmental and safety protections. Its pressurized barrier fluid design independently cools and lubricates the faces, while keeping the process completely isolated from atmosphere. This dual-cartridge configuration is compatible with standard bore, large bore, and open-/taper-bore seal chambers across various pump platforms.
- Zero external contamination: A pressurized barrier fluid keeps process liquid from reaching the atmosphere, so personnel stay protected and emissions requirements are met in toxic, corrosive, and volatile services.
- Built for solids-rich service: Dual balanced faces seal high-concentration solids slurries, with abrasion- and corrosion-resistant materials selected for long service life under aggressive process conditions.
- Dual-cartridge installation: Designs to fit ANSI pumps and other standard pump platforms for simple fitment and maintenance.

Product Overview | Dual Cartridge Slurry Seal for Hazardous Service
The Style RKCMD answers a sealing problem in applications where both handling solids and keeping process media completely contained are required. A single-seal arrangement exposes process media to the atmosphere, which is unacceptable when the slurry carries toxic, corrosive, or volatile components. The RKCMD uses a pressurized barrier fluid between two balanced face sets to ensure process liquid stops at the inboard face, while the dual stationary cartridge construction installs on ANSI pumps and other standard pump platforms.

The seal comes standard with:
- Dual sets of faces provide protection from process release in the event of failure: If the inboard face leaks, the outboard face and barrier fluid continue containing process media until a planned shutdown
- A separate inboard face retainer that allows for harder, application-specific wetted metallurgy without the added cost of needing the gland and sleeve in more expensive materials.
- An integrated pumping ring sized for standard API barrier plan flow rates, circulating fluid through the inter-seal cavity for heat removal and face lubrication.
- Stationary primary element construction that compensates for shaft runout and seal chamber misalignment common in older pump installations
- Recommended with API Plan 53A, 53B, or 54 barrier fluid support systems, matched to the duty and pressure requirements of the application
Custom Solutions for Hazardous Services
The Style RKCMD can be configured with optional features for service-specific requirements, including:
-
- FlexICE™ diamond face treatment for dry-running and heavy-abrasive services
- Tungsten carbide face options where silicon carbide is not the recommended choice
- FFKM, EPDM, or FKM elastomers for chemically aggressive process fluids
- High chrome or Duplex/Super-Duplex Stainless metal parts for abrasive and corrosive process environments
- Custom barrier fluid configurations matched to specific support plan and reservoir setups

Design Features
- Engineered Slurry-Duty Face Materials
Face materials combine lubricating and heat-dissipating properties selected to extend face life under abrasive slurry loads. - Cushioned Monolithic Rotary Face
The one-piece, O-ring mounted rotary face absorbs vibration and pressure pulses for stable operation in aggressive process environments. - Separate Inboard Face Retainer
A dedicated retainer accommodates harder, application-specific wear materials without driving up overall cost. - Large Cross-Section Stator O-Ring
The stator O-ring rides on the polished face surface for full range of face motion, with open retainer geometry that keeps solids out. - Optional FlexICE™ Diamond Face Treatment
Diamond-coated faces extend service life in dry-running and heavy-abrasive applications where standard face materials wear quickly. - Stationary Design
A stationary primary element absorbs shaft runout and misalignment, with headroom for older or refurbished pumps. - Large Effective Pumping Ring
The integrated pumping ring circulates barrier fluid through the inter-seal cavity for heat removal and face lubrication. - Hardened Set Screws
Heat-treated set screws hold their grip under high-pressure service and in series-pump applications. - Static Multi-Spring Design
Heavy-duty springs isolated on the atmosphere side prevent hydraulic forces in the pump from imparting unbalanced loads on the faces. - Pressurized Barrier Fluid System
A barrier fluid pressurized above process keeps process media off the outboard face and contained inside the seal, so no emissions escape to the atmosphere.
